Riding a motorcycle in Bhutan is one of the best ways to discover Bhutan. It will immerse you in the natural beauty of the country while testing your riding skills in the Himalayas! At Jigme Expeditions, we prioritize your safety. While riding in a group, these hand signals are a must to learn when you start your trip with us:
When our road captain stretches his arm to the left; it means a narrow left turn is coming up. Expect him to slow down as he takes a left turn! Also, keep an eye out for the left signal. Alternatively, an outstretched arm to the right means a narrow right turn.
When our road captain lifts his left hand in 90 degrees with a clenched fist; it means we will be stopping. start slowing down immediately
When our rider raises his hands with an open palm, it means “FOLLOW ME.” start riding behind the road captain
The Himalayas can have tough terrains and debris. Our road captain keeps an eye out for debris and potholes. If the danger is on the left, he will point with his left hand (or stretch his left leg), if the danger is on the right, he will stretch his right leg in that direction
You will experience different roads in Bhutan. Some are narrow farm roads while others are large double lanes. Depending on the road captain, he can raise his left hand with 1 finger pointed upwards, which means we ride in a single file. Alternatively, if 2 fingers are raised, we ride in a double file.
During your trip with Jigme Expeditions, we will have many stoppages along the way – some for refreshments, others for the view! keep an eye out for our road captain, as he raises his thumb toward his helmet or mouth. Usually, it will mean a refreshment stop; for us, it is a signal to start slowing down as we are going to make a stoppage.
