Day 1

Arrival at Paro Airport – Drive to Thimphu (2 hrs)

Experience the breath-taking landing onto Paro Airport. Once there, our team will be there to welcome you to Bhutan! We take a 2 hrs journey to Thimphu, with stoppage on the way to visit the Tachog Lhakhang (the Iron Chain Bridge).

Once in Thimphu, check into your DoT (link) certified Hotel and freshen up. We continue our journey by visiting the Tashichho Dzong, truly a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture and beauty. Continue your expedition, as we visit the Memorial Chorten and the Buddha Dordenma Statue (the largest sitting buddha statue), which also host a panoramic view of Thimphu! In the evening, take a stroll around Thimphu town to immerse yourself in the Bhutanese way of life.

Day 2

Thimphu – Punakha (3-4 Hrs)

We make our way towards Punakha. On the way, we stop for a tea-break in the popular Dochula-Pass at 3,100m. It also has 108 chortens that was built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk. In a clear day, you will be able to see the Himalayan Mountain Ranges.

Continue towards Punakha. Upon reaching Punakha, our first stop is in the Yuwakha Village, to visit the Chimmi Lhakhang or popularly known as the temple of the Divine Mad Monk.

After lunch, we visit the most beautiful Dzong in the entire country – The Punakha Dzong! After which, if time permits; you can experience the thrill of river rafting (not included in the package, extra charges apply). If time permits, other site seeing and local experiences will be included.

Day 3

Punakha – Phobjikha/Gangtey

We travel to the natural beauty that is Phobjikha Valley. The valley is also known as the winter home for the Black-Necked Cranes when they migrate from the north. If you travel between November – March, you can observe these splendid birds. For the rest of the day, we immerse ourself in the local culture of the village and also do some local sightseeing.

Day 4

Phobjikha to Bumthang (6hrs)

While it’s a long drive, there is many to see along the way. First up, we visit Trongsa, the gateway to Central Bhutan. It has a spectacular view! We visit the Ta-Dzong a museum dedicated to the Wangchk Dynasty. Second stop, will be the first village while entering Bumthang – The Zungney Village in Chumey. Indulge in the beauty and the local communities, that showcase the locals weaving traditional yathras! You can buy one, if interested. Continue onwards in the heart of Bumthang, where we check in and spend the night.

Day 5

Bumthang

Bumthang is a spiritual and beautiful valley. Composed of 4 main valleys – Choekor, Tang, Ura and Chumey.

We spend the whole day here, discovering most of what Bumthang has to offer.

Day 6

Bumthang – Mongar (8hrs)

In the morning we start our journey towards the highest motorable road – the Thrumshing La, which is 3,750m. We start descending from here and you will notice the vegetation change along the way. We reach Mongar. We will spend the day here visiting the local sites of Mongar.

Day 7

Mongar

We spend the day here visitng the neighbors of Mongar – Lhuntshe. Around 3 hrs drive from Mongar. Spend the day visiting the local site seeing and immersing yourself in the local communities of Lhuntshe. We drive back to Mongar and spend the night there.

Day 8

Mongar – Tashigang (3hrs)

In the morning, we make our way towards Tashigang. Along the way, we visit many picture-perfect villages; such as the Yadi Village. You will have a picnic here, arranged by our team, before we continue towards Tashigang. Upon reaching Tashigang, we can engage in local siteseeing.

Day 9

Tashigang – Tashiyangtshe (2 hrs)

Today we will do a day excursion to Tashiyangtshe. On the way, visit temple of Gom Kora, set on a small alluvial plateau, overlooking the river (24kms) from Tashigang. Gom Kora is famous place where Guru Rinpoche is said to have subdued a demon, trapping it in a rock.

We will continue our journey to Doksum village, where you can see women busily weaving traditional Bhutanese fabric and chain-link Swing Bridge dating back to the 15th century. The road turns into the hills here, running up the side of winding river valley to Tashiyangtshe.

This area is famous for its wooden containers and bowls, which make expensive, attractive and useful souvenirs of a visit to this remote region.

Visit the dazzling white stupa of Chorten Kora on the riverbank before visiting the School of traditional Art. Return to Tashigang in the evening.

Day 10

Tashigang – Merak (4hrs)

As we move towards the unique village of Merak, we stop and explore Radhi Village first. Famous for its hand weaving skills and production of raw silk textiles.

Day 11

Merak – Tashigang

Spend the whole day interacting with the community of Merak. Truly unique in its culture and beauty. In the evening, we return back to Tashigang.

Day 12

Tashigang – Bumthang

We make our way back to Bumthang.

Day 13

Bumthang – Paro (via domestic flight)

We take the domestic flight back to Paro. Takes around 30 mins and departs in the morning. After checking into the hotel, we do local sight-seeing in Paro; such as Kyichu Lhakhag, Chele La Pass for a panoramic view of the valley, Rinpung Dzong, Drukgyel Dzong and many more!

Day 14

Paro

We saved the best for last. After a heartwarming breakfast, we start our hike to the popular Tiger’s Nest or as locals call it – Taktsang. The Tiger’s nest is one of the most unique and mesmerizing Buddhist monastery in Bhutan, located on the cliffside, surrounded by greenery and nature. It is 3,200M above sea level and 1000m above the Paro Valley. We take this hike slowly, as we experience every step and beauty along the way.

Upon finishing the hike, time for a traditional hot stone bath (compliments from Jigme Expeditions!). You’ve earned it! This bath contains traditional herbs and heated via a unique stone. It will relax your body, after a great hike!
